VOTY to Focus on the MDGs
 
On the meeting held January 7, 2006 at the Food Choices in Glorietta, Makati City, the body has agreed to keep the organization’s focus on promoting awareness about the MDGs and direct its actions towards the achievement of goals in local setting.
 
From having 11 advocacies in its profile and in honesty admits that it cannot attend to such very broad scope given that no one among its officers and members are in full-time service, VOTY decides to concentrate on the 8 goals and help the United Nations and other organizations on actions that still leads in creating positive social changes.
 
“Nothing will change,” claims Lionel Gonzaga, the VOTY Executive Director.  “We did not even leave or change our advocacies as stated on the profile.  This move is only ‘for papers purposes’ – for profiling per se. We believe that what we’ve been doing for the past years are already leading to the MDGs.  It’s just being specific this time,” he continued.
 
One of the most successful activities of the organization in the year 2005 is the Kabataan Night: Ito ang Kultura Mo! With its theme, “Celebrating Youth Culture and Volunteerism Towards Achieving the Millennium Development Goals,” this activity was published in the Millenium Campaign Website - www.millenniumcampaign.org.
 
“Doon sa Kabataan Night, nakita namin kung gaano ka-seryoso at inspired ang mga kabataan kapag pagbabago ang pinag-uusapan, lahat nagkakaisa, nagkakasundo sa paggamit ng musika at kultura upang ipaalam ang kani-kanilang saloobin.  Sino ba naman kasing matinong kabataan ang ayaw makilahok sa pagbabago di ba? That night inspired us to do more and take the MDG to more Filipino youth.
