“SABAY TAYO tungo sa 2015! Sama-sama, walang iwanan”

February 22, 2006

PUP’s part on the achievement of the MDGs

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), College of Communication (CoC) in cooperation with the Voice of the Youth Network (VOTY) and Missionaries of the Child Jesus (MCJ) will be taking a simple step towards the success of the Millenium Development Goals.

Nine PUP students taking up Bachelor in Braodcast Communication namely Richardson Mojica, Envy Parubrob, AM Laurente, Mary Grace Andoque, Jesse Ruben Bibay, Abbie Cagasan, Christian Singuay and JP Carlos, took the initiatiative to hold the set of activities and programs for the target beneficiaries to cover up some of the MDGs respectively:

  • Medical Mission and / or Dental Mission Reduce Child Mortality and Improve Maternal Health.
    • This targets at least 60 patients (depending on the number of Doctors/ Dentists and Medicines) primarily the pregnant mothers and children below 5 y/o.
  • Feeding Program Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger.
    • This targets to feed the Community Day Care Center with about 75 students
  • Book Donation Achieve Universal Primary Education
    • The group will donate pre- school and children’s books and other educational materials to the Community Day Care Center.
  • Symposium regarding the MDGs

The communication campaign primarily aims to help the country and other organizations like VOTY to achieve the Eight MDGs that the United Nations have set in the year 2000. The title Sabay Tayo tungo sa 2015!” was inspired by the song Tayo- tayo rin where in the group have given emphasis on the year 2015 to achieve the positive outlook towards the achievement of such. While the sub title inspires and reminds all that every one is a part of this goal. Camaraderie and unity will be a very powerful synergy towards the same goal.

This camaraderie and unity is much vissibe between PUP- CoC, MCJ nuns, and VOTY. All parties are working hand in hand to and taking the same road towards the accomplishment of the Millenium Development Goals.

EVOLUTION OF LAKAS KABATAAN – TINIG KABATAAN: RECHARGED!!!

February 16, 2006

EVOLUTION OF LAKAS KABATAAN – TINIG KABATAAN: RECHARGED!!!

In 1997, Lakas Kabataan was first aired over DZME 1530 kHz, every Saturday for the purpose of giving young people a chance to voice out on radio. Through the years it has become a venue for debates and discussions on youth social issues. Topics ranged from teen relationships, family values, and education to political and national issues. Ms. Jenny Navata, now a resident DZME Broadcaster (Home Buddy, Beat Watch) first hosted the program. Then by Mr. Dennis Principe, news and sports anchor of IBC 13 and by Anthony Bendo, a former news anchor, and deejay and news editor. Lakas Kabataan eventually was taken over by Ms. Suzette Ledesma, the friendly Ilongga and a certified charmer, co-host of the daily on-air shopping program “Sale ng Bayan”, and DJ Emsie, a senior news writer and a segment anchor of DZME’s daily showbiz-oriented program, “Showbiz Tsikahan” that already established a huge listener following.
In July 2004, with the goal of creating a more invigorating program that would further reach out to young people and youth organizations, The Voice of the Youth (Tinig Kabataan) Network, was invited through it’s founder and president, Mr. Pocholo D. Gonzales, a voice talent and an internationally recognized youth advocate that has represented the Philippines in worldwide youth affairs. Because of VOTY Network’s success as a youth organization, in August, Lakas Kabataan formally merged with Tinig Kabataan to Recharge the Filipino youth spirit and evolved into LAKAS KABATAAN - TINIG KABATAAN: RECHARGED!!!

FEATURED YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS AND PARTNERS:

These are the organizations that LKTKR featured since August 2004. We have been establishing our partnership and continuous communication with these groups in our advocacies to inspire, inform and involve the Filipino youth through opportunities for Empowerment. These organizations strongly endorse our program.
l       Network of Campus Journalists of the Philippines
l       Philippine Youth Sphere
l       Youth and Elderly in Service (YES)
Maybelyn dela Cruz (founder and president)
l       MyZoo Volunteers Foundation
l       Center for Environmental Awareness and Education
l       Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC)
l       Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo (LIRA)
l       Hands On Manila Foundation, Inc.
l       I-volunteer (www.ivolunteer.ph)
l       Kampus Mag
l       Philippine Youth Employment Network
l       Save Me Movement
l       United Nations Volunteer for Millenium Development Goal
l       Kristiyanong Kabataan Para sa Bayan Movement (KKB)
l       Rotar Act Club East Rover Paranaque
l       U.P. Paranormal Society
l       Nginig Host
l       Red Cross

LISTENER IMPACT

The major challenge for the program is to get the attention of it’s target listeners, the young people, who are preoccupied with a lot of activities in school, in playing online games and going out during the weekends. It may not be usual for the youth to listen to AM Radio that has somehow become associated with older listeners.
LKTKR face this challenge through the utilization of the Internet. Through Voice of the Youth Network’s official website, www.voty.org, and it’s e-mailing list of over a hundred thousand, information and promotion is just a click away. And as we feature several organizations with large youth membership, we see their enthusiasm for the program. We’ve been receiving text messages from NCR and nearby provinces giving positive feedback. The timeslot of LKTKR that is preceded by DZME’s ultimate Sports Program, Usapang Sports hosted by Ms. Beth Selis, is also considered an advantage.
We also make our fellow young people realize that the force and industry of radio broadcasting is still powerful in the midst of modern media and could still be a fruitful career in the future.

POSSIBILITIES

There is so much in store for LKTKR. Aside from the summary of each episode being documented and published in it’s website, soon, replays of the radio program would be uploaded in the Internet for young people could to hear anytime and anywhere in the world. The radio program would also conquer print, as we plan to link-up with youth publications and create our own one.
In our Bilib Kami Sa’yo segment we have been scouting for students and young achievers who make a difference. Soon, we would award all that we have invited in one major “recognition day” episode where all of them would meet and would get together. These young people from all walks of life and advocacies need the sincerest recognition as they inspire our fellow youth.
On-location coverage, more airtime, contests and promos for our listeners, more entertainment and more talented young people are just among the possibilities of LKTKR in the near future. Through your support, all of these would turn into reality.

Subject: An Organization that’s for me is "near perfection"

VOTY is an organization that caters to all. It is not exclusive, meaning it doesn’t make room for any barriers be it socio-cultural, political or religious barriers. Secondly, its aims are so noble and not consumed by self-interests that’s why it will never lead to fragmentations as well as isolation as what happened to other youth organizations that supposedly are founded on noble vision. VOTY’s brilliance to inspire, inform and involve the youth can be attested by the international community that’s why it garnered numerous awards both locally and internationally. In VOTY, you will meet people from all sectors of society and all of you are comfortable with one another because VOTY is non-traditional, meaning it doesn’t give the sense of having bosses to unleash terror on you. Lastly VOTY fuels the youth with self-esteem and allows for initiative to settle in because the playing field is leveled through opportunity equity.         _________________________________

Kalingap: Outreach in Montalban, Rizal

February 12, 2006

Kalingap: Outreach in Montalban, Rizal
January 28, 2006
Sitio Maislap, San Isidro, Montalban Rizal

kiyosaki After a couple of rainy days, the sun finally smiled that one Saturday morning when members of Red Cross Rodriguez Chapter, United Nations Volunteers Philippines and VOTY visited Sitio Maislap, Barangay San Isidro Montalban Rizal. It took a two hour - drive from the drop off point in Katipunan passing through Marikina and San Mateo to reach our destination… we just can’t wait to see the kids and give them a treat.

Around 50 kids aged 4 to 15 years old greeted us with wonder at their improvised function hall where we used a cool videoke machine as our sound system. With an “Aba – Syempre!” welcome from ate Eunice, the program kicked off with a song and dance number from a smart sweet local girl, Jessa who was later joined by one of UNV’s import from Japan, Ate Chiki.

Ate Eunice, a new VOTY volunteer, charmingly led a game show for the kids. Two groups with five members each were formed. In a “Game Ka Na Ba?” inspired format, whoever member gives the most examples of a certain category in the least possible time wins. Well, as expected, the girls outsmarted the guys.

With Kuya Ion and Ate Florence, another group of kids out-danced and outrun each other in the classic parlor game “Trip to Jerusalem”, as Kuya Echo, and Ate Chiara had the kids rockin’ the ceiling with Bamboo’s Halleluiah. After a quick - snack break, all were all eyes and ears with Kuya Vanjo’s deserving-of-an-acting-award style of storytelling. No one had heard and seen of a Filipino – version of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” told like that before.

kn2

What followed were two trivia games joined by Ates Chiki, Nom, and Jem and Kuya Ryan. Kuya Vanjo once again pulled some wacky and smart multiple – choice questions for the kids.

Up next is clearly the most exciting part… The gift-giving portion of the day! So what’s inside the cute and colorful VOTY freebie – bags? Picture puzzles, story, activity and coloring books and crayons, ball pens, pencils, toothbrush, Happee toothpaste, bath soap, and face towel. There were also packs of cookies provided by Red Cross Rodriguez Chapter. These items were bought with the help of the sponsors of VOTY and UNV’s Kabataan Night 2 mini-concert last December.

kn3

Kuya Ion then gave an inspiring message to the kids in order for them to Dream, Believe and Survive! Wrapping up is another treat from Kuya Vanjo who sang his version of “Totoy Bibo” with his anti-cigarette smoking lyrics.
Thanks to Mang Danilo, the head of Sitio Maislip for the warm welcome. Thanks also to the rest of the guys who volunteered with us in a one – fun day! Thanks to the very disciplined and adorable kids of San Isidro, we’re definitely going to see you again soon.
