It was a bright and sunny morning as we traversed the majestic beauty of Arakan valley.A total of 100 manobo children received a one-year school supply from the generous Filipino donors abroad through the Voice of the Youth Network in partnership with the Bravo Company of the 40th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
The project started with some of our Kababayans abroad wished to payback to their motherland and through the help of technology, the dream of Manobo children to go to school was fulfilled. A heartful thanks to Gugmahan Samar Group, Ms. Tiffany Monje and Ms. Theresa Martinez.
The donation was transported by the C130 through The Civil Relations Service and the 40IB headed by the CMO Officer 1Lt Alex Salcedo, Bravo Coy Cmdr 1Lt Abdullah Sumablao and Executive Officer 2Lt Ian Hermosura coordinated with the Katindu Elementary School’s Principal Mrs. Figura facilitated the donation.
A simple, intimate and meaningful program was presented on the morning of June 10. Was really happy to see a live Manobo Dance by the lolas and I wish they could pass it on to their youngs. Very organized program, everybody was there, parents, children and community leaders were around. Education goes beyond the 4-corners of the classroom, education is a community undertaking. Food was great! Hehe!
Learned a lot from this trip. Doon ang ilog, sinlaki ng dagat! Would you believe, may budget meal don na P5.00? Totoo! The best! At saging na dip sa bagoong! Next time, sama na kayo!
VOTY is very much grateful for the kindhearted donors who trusted us to become their bridge of help. There are a lot to be done, we can only do so much. Ika nga isang manobo, "Kung sira-sira naman eskwelahan mo, wala ka pang gamit, layo-layo pa,. pano ka naman gaganahang mag-aral?" Pano nga ba? We cannot change the world. We can only do a little. Big things come from small packages. There are infinite possibilities in little beginnings.
Indeed, education is a right- a right of every Batang Pinoy…Manobo man, Tausug, Lumad at kahit ano pa man. Education is worth an investment. Our future leaders should be educated. VOTY believes that war is not won through bloodshed but of love and sincere care of every Filipino who wants to live a peaceful, progressive and Godly community.
